Alumni Spotlight: Guido Vidotto
Posted on April 4, 2019
Guido Vidotto came to the Professional Golfers Career College from Chascomús, Buenos Aires, Argentina. During his youth he played soccer until transitioning to golf at the age of 13. Vidotto’s skills and passion for the game grew as he developed into a zero handicap golfer by age 17. Upon the recommendation of his friend Vidotto came to study at PGCC. Since his time at PGCC, Vidotto has worked as a golf coach at the Hernan Rey Golf Academy as well as a personal coach to several professional golfers. Discover more about Vidotto and his journey into the golf industry through the Professional Golfers Career College.
“I was introduced to golf through my friends and have been playing since I was 13.” Vidotto shares. During the summer his friends would go play golf and he’d be left alone at home. “Until one day, a friend lent me a set of clubs and that’s when it all started.” Since his friends had a head start on the game Vidotto notes that “at first it was difficult for me to get good results.”
However, that changed after he put in some hard work which brought his handicap to 0 by the age of 17. His hard work was rewarded the following year when he was able to “win the club championship at the age of 18.” One of Vidotto’s friends from Argentina, Juan Echenique, was attending the Professional Golfers Career College and talked to Vidotto “about the program, how good and fun it was.” So Vidotto followed his friend’s advice and his own passion for golf and enrolled at PGCC.
“During my tenure at PGCC I learned many important lessons and made lifelong memories.” Vidotto happily explains. “I learned a lot about the history of the game.” Our History of Golf course at our Temecula campus is taught by PGCC Founder and President Dr. Tim Somerville, whom most refer to as simply Doc. “Doc’s class was one of my favorites. The love, passion and dedication that he puts into each of his classes and activities truly motivates one to believe that if the desire and passion to achieve something is there; it is possible to achieve goals and dreams.”
Vidotto reflects fondly on his time at PGCC and shares some of his favorite experiences. “Winning the Green Jacket on my sophomore year and having Doc putting the jacket on me in the ceremony. I still remember how nervous I was while giving my speech.” The Green Jacket is given to the winner of the 2-day Semester Tournament and is an honor most students vie for. Another privilege students compete for during the school year is the chance to play in the International Cup, where they’ll face off against PGCC faculty. Vidotto describes his time playing in the International Cup, “It was an excellent match that went back and forth, both of us shooting under par.”
Along with having memories of great golfing experiences, Vidotto was imparted with the skills needed to succeed in the golf industry. “PGCC gave me all the necessary tools to be prepared for the world of golf.” He explains. “From learning to do a business plan to always being open to meeting new people and creating job opportunities.”
Upon graduating from the Professional Golfers Career College Vidotto received a scholarship to Johnson & Wales University to play collegiate golf. “I graduated with honors in 2017 (Summa Cum Laude) and won two tournaments during my college career.” Once his college career came to a close, Vidotto began his golf career. He began his coaching career at Hernan Rey Golf Academy.
“I’m currently working with a professional golfer that plays in the Symetra and European Ladies Tour.” When he’s not helping her, he does work coaching juniors at the Hernan Rey Golf Academy. During his career so far he’s “had the opportunity to work with professional golfers like Emiliano Grillo (PGA Tour), Fabrizio Zanotti (European Tour), Jorge Fernandez Valdes (PGA Latin America), among others.” Through the Academy Vidotto was able to work with his home country’s National Team. “I worked with the National Team of Argentina, which won two “Copa Andes” and one “South American Championship.” He’s also worked with participants of the Youth Olympic Games and the Latin America Amateur Championship.
“What I enjoy the most about this profession is helping others achieve their goals.” Guido Vidotto elaborates on the joy he gets from the golf profession. “To be part of the development of my students, that they trust in me as a tool to reach their goals and dreams and fight against their fears and doubts is the rewarding part of this job.”
If you’d like to start a career in the golf world, Vidotto recommends PGCC. “I would say that if you really want to have an in-depth knowledge about the golf industry do not think twice about another place to go.” Vidotto gained all the tools he needed to succeed in the world of golf at PGCC. Whatever path you may decide to take, Guido Vidotto shares these final words of advice. “Have passion and dedication for what you decide to do. Enjoy every moment as if it were your last and take responsibility and commitment for the decisions that you decide for your future.”
