Faculty Spotlight: Kevin Duenas
Posted on January 31, 2017
Kevin Duenas is the instructor of Fitness for Golf here at the Professional Golfers Career College Temecula campus. With 16 years of experience in fitness and 10 years working with golfers he’s the ideal instructor for such a course. Not to mention Kevin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health and Fitness from the California University of Pennsylvania. If that’s not enough, Kevin is also a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) certified Fitness professional and a Performance Enhancement Specialist.Kevin has been an instructor here at PGCC for several years now, but PGCC isn’t his only job. “I own my own business, Dynamic Fitness, with Brian Richardson (also an instructor at PGCC).” Kevin explains further how his business came to be, “Brian and I worked together in 1999/2000 and then branched away from corporate fitness in 2003. In 2005, we founded Dynamic Fitness with the mission to combine science, passion, and motivation with the art of personal training, in order to assist the athlete/client with achieving maximum and attainable results.” That mission is the driving force behind both his business and his Fitness for Golf course here at PGCC.
Kevin’s philosophy when it comes to teaching fitness is: “without the clear understanding of correct testing protocol and comprehensive knowledge of human biomechanics, it is impossible to guide the client through a successful fitness/strength and conditioning program.” More simply put: “basically if you’re not working on the right movement patterns how can you expect your body to move correctly.” Kevin tries to instill in his students at PGCC the proper techniques for training that will translate into the best results.Other than being able to attend his Fitness for Golf course, Kevin shares why he would recommend PGCC, “It’ll help increase your knowledge of the golf industry immensely. It’s perfect for someone who wants to get into a field they’re passionate about because the teachers here are just as passionate.”
Kevin first started playing golf about 11 years ago. Inspired by his favorite golfer Tiger Woods, “he’s the reason I got into golf and started watching it and why I picked up a club.” After about a year of learning the game himself, Kevin used his fitness knowledge and began developing training programs specific for golf.Kevin’s worked alongside and helped train a good number of professional golfers. To name a few he’s worked with: LPGA’s former world no. 1 Inbee Park, PGA’s Tom Pernice Jr, LPGA’s Sydnee Michaels, LPGA’s Ariya & Moriya Jutanugarn, upcoming pro Kevin Dougherty, Joe Skovron former pro and current caddie to Rickie Fowler, and Rickie Fowler himself.
With such an illustrious resume it’s hard for Kevin to narrow down just one highlight of his career, so he shared a few. Outside of golf there’s a couple highlights, “I was Volunteer coach of the year for the U.S. Olympic Skating committee. I trained Dan Henderson, world renowned MMA fighter and former Strikeforce champion.”
Getting back to golf, “I trained LPGA’s Inbee Park, former world number 1 golfer. I got to jump into the famous Poppie’s Pond with Inbee Park after she won the 2013 LPGA’s Kraft Nabisco Championship (now the ANA Inspiration) at Mission Hills Country Club.”Kevin leaves us with these parting words of wisdom, “Find the passion to better yourself and keep going. Pursue your dreams. Don’t give up until they make you!”
